  EMPLOYEE TESTIMONIALS

     Erin
     Sales & Marketing Associate
     Virginia Tech, 2002
     Ryan Homes

We caught up with Erin, in between finding families their perfect home, and asked her why she loves her job.

Tell us about your best day on the job? What made it so special?
My best day on the job was when I was training in townhomes. The Sales & Marketing Representative that I was training with was out of town, but because of my comprehensive training, I able to successfully complete a sale by myself, and I hadn't even passed my Demo Day!

Take us through a typical day on the job. What are the highlights?
A typical day for me is never, ever the same! Some days are spent following-up with customers … handling appointments … or working on marketing pieces that will draw in my next sale. But the highlight of my day is always the opportunity to help a customer find a home that fits their needs. That way I know I am performing my job well, and they are getting a home they will love!

Specifically, how does NVR support your career advancement?
NVR wants their people to succeed. They want to see us happy: financially, emotionally, and personally. We go through several months of classroom and field training, after which we are promoted to a Sales & Marketing Representative, capable of handling the sales in our respective communities. Beyond our first promotions, we set our own goals and timelines. That way, we are always advancing professionally.

What would you say is the ONE thing that you enjoy the most about working at NVR?
If I were to pick one thing, I would say it's working with the people here. Through successful and extensive recruiting efforts, NVR has tapped into a market of ambitious, active, energetic, competitive, and intelligent people who are eager to learn. We enjoy similar activities outside of work that allow us to form a unique camaraderie. Having people like that around you only makes you want to be a better professional!

Is there anything about NVR and/or your particular position that you would want job candidates to know?
I want potential candidates to know how wonderful the company culture here is at NVR, how friendly the people are, and how accessible the management team is. When you work in a competitive industry with competitive individuals, it's often hard to find managers who are ready to listen to your needs and help you to grow professionally. This is NOT the case at NVR. My manager and I work as a team.

Talk about…

Job Autonomy.
You basically take what you've learned during the training process and from your mentors, and 'piece' them together to develop your own sales approach. After all, you are learning the secrets of success from the top sales people in the company!

Job Training and Training for Advancement.
Classroom training combined with field training offers a hands-on learning approach. The idea is: study the technique, observe how it's done, and then do it yourself. After all of that, you'll be ready to handle any situation on your own.

Advancement Potential.
Over 90% of the managers at NVR are promoted from within. I have a clear idea of where my career will lead. From a Sales & Marketing Associate, I will be promoted to a Sales & Marketing Representative, then maybe in a few years to a Sales Manager. But if I decide that sales isn't the path for me, I can look into a career in our Training Department, at our mortgage company, or even in our Human Resources Department. The possibilities are endless!

Freedom.
I don't have any friends that have nearly as much freedom as I have. I choose when I want to set my appointments, what I want to make as my career goals, and where I want to go with my future with the company. And I have the freedom to decide what fits the needs of my buyers best, and how to market to them.

Company Strength.
You know you have found a good thing when all your friends and family tell you, "Oh, you are so lucky to work at NVR!" Our stock remains strong, the industry we work in is explosive, and we are compensated based on our own successes.

What would you tell someone to convince them to choose a career with homebuilding and NVR?
Choose NVR because you enjoy a challenge, you like excitement, and you aren't afraid of taking a little risk. Choose NVR because you can be yourself, meet an amazing new network of co-workers, friends, and customers, and most importantly, choose it because it's a great opportunity for you to be happy and successful in your career.

Tell us about your best experience with a homebuyer. What made them so happy?
There was a customer who had buyer's remorse at the last minute. After we had worked out a financial plan and a contract, he had some questions: Did he make the right decision for his family? Will rates go up over the next few months? Will he be able to afford the payment? Did he make a good investment? I did my best in reassuring him. One week later, I received a 'thank you' note from him and his family. He thanked me for my time, my knowledge, and for my patience. He was extremely excited about his new home. In just a week and a half, he had made an instant equity of $25,000. Turned out he had made a good investment after all!

Do you participate in social, recreational or athletic events with your colleagues?
We have 'reality show' night each week, where we socialize and order pizza in. It's a chance for us to share a little more about ourselves in a non-work setting. I just moved into a new place - with two other Sales & Marketing Associates.
