What would you say is the ONE thing you enjoy most about working at NVR? Why?
It's the freedom that we as Project Managers and Production Supervisors receive. If you are building 25 million-dollar houses, you have a million dollars a house to spend, and NVR allows you to manage and budget that money to get the job done.

Talk a little about the topic of job responsibility.
Everyday, there is a new responsibility or challenge, and that's what makes coming to work so exciting. For a new candidate, NVR offers more responsibility than any other job - straight out of college.

Specifically, how does NVR support your career advancement?
I get a review every year. Basically, it's a report card of the past year and how you have done. At this time, you get an action plan, which spells out activities that will facilitate your career. This allows you to better prepare yourself.

NVR always asks where you want to be in a year, 2 years, 5 years, etc. The company then works out a plan and helps you work toward that goal: sales, production management, division management - it's all within reach.

What would you tell someone to convince them to choose a career in homebuilding? What would you tell someone to convince them to choose NVR?
NVR's' attention to detail has made the company one of the most recognizable and respected builders in the country. This means career stability for me. NVR stock is also on the rise. With my participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Program and 401K, it's an added bonus.

Tell us about your best experience with a homebuyer. What made them so happy?
It's always at post-settlement follow-up. It's an inspection 30 days after the homeowner has settled. What makes the experience so great is that you see how the homeowner has taken what you have built and customized it with paint, furniture, and more. You are seeing the house you have built through whole new eyes.

Do you participate in social, recreational or athletic events with your colleagues?
Every summer, NVHomes and Ryan Homes have a softball league that is pretty competitive. This gives the production staff the ability to bond outside the office and job sites. Another activity is the flag football game every year before Thanksgiving. And every summer, we take trips to the Baltimore Orioles games.
